John B. Myers (1815-1909) obituary, Astoria [IL] Argus, 11 Nov 1909:

LONG LIFE IS ENDED.

John B. MYERS, an aged and well known resident of Woodland township, died at his home Sunday. His death was due to complication of diseases and advanced age.

Mr. MYERS was born in Codorus, Adams County, Pennsylvania [Codorus is in York County], August 4, 1815. At the time of his death he was aged 94 years, 3 months and three days. He moved from Penn. to Ill. in 1854.

His father, a farmer in Penn., was united in marriage to Miss Eve BRILLHART and to them were born 12 children, John being the eight [sic] child. He was married to Barbara KISLEY [should be GEISLER], who bore him five children, namely Mrs. Ann SHAFFER and Solomon, of Astoria, Adam, of Fandon, Mrs. Christena NEIGHBORS, deceased, of Canton, and Mrs. Elizabeth KING, who resides in Pennsylvania. Mrs. MYERS died in Pennsylvania in the year of 1845.

To his second wife, Lydia DRESSLER, four children were born, Abraham, deceased, of Dunfermline, and Jacob, of Quincy, and two dying in infancy. She also died in Pennsylvania in 1850 and Mr. MYERS united his [fortune?] to Miss Mary WANTZ, to this marriage four children were born: Mrs. Lucy McCLUNG, of Astoria, Mrs. Alice PERKINS, of Bloomington, Charles, who resides on the home place, and Sarah, who died in infancy.

Mr. MYERS was a member of the Reformed Church of Astoria, having united with them in early life.

The funeral services were held at Reformed church Tuesday and were largely attended, which was an evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Rev. C. M. WILSON, assisted by Rev. F. BOYD, officiated.

Thus hath the father gone and may we say: God has his mysteries grace, ways that we cannot tell; He hides them deep, like the secret sleep, of him He loved so well.
