He was a machinist at the Burlington Northern Railroad for 46 years, retiring in 1996. As a young man he also worked for Elliotts Gas Station and did carpentry work as well. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life, and enjoyed connecting with the Lord in the timber. As a boy and young man he attended church services at the First Lutheran Church in Galesburg. His favorite hunting and fishing buddy was his son, Dale. Don also enjoyed reading and had an insatiable appetite for books. He possessed excellent carpentry skills and built many things throughout his life. He especially enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandchildren, and being their Bubba. He is survived by three daughters, one son, and two sons-in-law. They are Linda Knuth, Shirley and Rocky Lester, and Dale Park, all of Galesburg, and Mary and Rory Franck of Cambridge, Ill. Other survivors include eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Leo and Zella. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gladys DuBois, Gertrude Shelton Dickerson, and Francis Anderson Sparks; and one brother, Harry Dale Park. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Curt Lipe will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or Galesburg Public Library Foundation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

She was born July 7, 1912, in Henderson Grove, the daughter of George Harry and Lillie Peterson Park. She married Gordon Anderson on April 30, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. He passed away April 29, 1971. She married Kenneth V. Sparks on July 25, 1985, in Galesburg. Surviving are her husband; one son, Robert Anderson, Galesburg; three stepsons, Robert Sparks, Mesa, Ariz., Phillip Sparks, Galesburg, and Dean Sparks, Abilene, Kan.; one daughter, Jean Grupe, Galesburg; one stepdaughter, Teresa O'Reilly, Valrico, Fla.; five grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Park, Galesburg; two sisters, Gertrude Dickerson, Abingdon, and Gladyce DuBois, Hesperia, Calif. She was a member of Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, and a former member of the PTA. Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Larsen officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
