Chris loved and left behind two sons, Gordon and Carter Brown; their mother, Tammy Knox of Litchfield Connecticut; brother Peter of Chicago, Illinois; sister Phoebe Brown and brother-in-law Paul Klug, of Wyoming Ohio; sister Susan Brown of Ashland, Oregon; nephews McKay Brown, Julian Freed-Brown, and Jackson Klug; nieces Grace and Elise Freed-Brown, Celia and Emma Klug, and Chloe and Phoebe Brown. Chris trained for a career as a classical and jazz musician and educator at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the 1970's. Chris also recorded numerous film, dance and television scores as well as spoken-word recordings. He produced "The Beehive," a live radio program hosted by Susan Saint-James. Chris was active as a music educator. He gave private lessons, taught at the Wooster School for a time, and conducted improvisation workshops. Chris was perhaps best known for his long collaboration with Paul Winter and Winter Consort, with whom he participated in more than twenty releases as an engineer, editor and co-producer. Chris received a Grammy Award for Best New Age Album of 1995 for Paul Winter's "Prayer for the Wild Things," on which he served as music editor. Chris loved the outdoors: walking, biking, kayaking, sailing and skiing. He enjoyed intimate sessions playing music with friends. Chris was a sensitive and caring individual who leaves scores of friends to mourn his passing. Above all, he cherished his role as father to Gordon and Carter, young men of whom he was infinitely proud.
